The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a great job in making its heroes vulnerable, and yet there are some moments that are just unbelievable even for superhero standards, like how the Avengers survived Thanos’ attack on the team’s HQ in Avengers: Endgame. Everything the MCU had been building for a decade came together in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, marking a turning point in the history of this connected universe.

Avengers: Infinity War saw most of the superheroes in the MCU fight Thanos and his armies on Earth and outer space – but the Mad Titan won and wiped out half of life in the universe with the snap of his fingers. Avengers: Endgame followed the surviving heroes as they dealt with the consequences of the snap and looked for a way to undo it and get rid of Thanos once and for all. The film brought together all the superheroes in the MCU to fight Thanos and company in the biggest battle the superhero genre has ever seen.

Of course, as it’s a superhero film and everything is possible in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction, there are many moments that involve magic, aliens, super advanced technology, etc – and yet none of these are as unbelievable as the Avengers surviving Thanos’ attack on their building.

How The Avengers Survived Thanos’ Attack

When Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon, War Machine, Nebula (from the past), the Hulk, and Hawkeye reunited at the Avengers HQ after retrieving the Infinity Stones from the past, they mounted these on a nano-tech gauntlet made by Tony Stark and had the Hulk reverse the snap. After that, the characters had just a couple of seconds to take everything in before the building was bombarded by Thanos and his armies. The building collapsed and the aforementioned characters (except Nebula) got trapped in the rubble – but they survived.

Prior to the Hulk’s snap, the building went on lockdown, and it was lifted after the snap and before the attack. Ant-Man survived by shrinking down, which also allowed him to get to War Machine and Rocket Raccoon before they drowned and take them out by going on Giant Man mode. As for the rest, and given the impact of the crash and the explosions, they miraculously survived. The Hulk has great strength and endurance, so it’s believable that he lived. Iron Man was wearing the armor, but as much technology as it has, it’s not unbreakable. Captain America is physically enhanced thanks to the super-soldier serum and Thor is a God, but none of them are immortal. And Hawkeye, although he looked pretty battered, made it out without a single broken bone, even though he was seen falling from a great distance.

Perhaps they were lucky enough to get trapped in a void created by the rubble, like Captain America, who was shown to just be lying unconscious without any pieces of the building over him (unlike Rocket Raccoon, for example). Even though they figured out how to travel back in time, retrieve the stones, undo the snap, defeat Thanos, and take the stones back, one of their most amazing achievements was definitely how they survived the attack at the Avengers HQ.
