A current trend with the video game industry and surrounding community of late has been the development of current-generation remasters of old classics, with developer Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us and RockStar North’s Grand Theft Auto V being among the most recent and popular examples. For many gamers wishing to revisit past favorites - or those who might have missed out on certain titles the first time around - the production of higher-definition remasters of last-generation titles has proven to be a lucrative means for repackaging best-sellers that are already well-known and beloved.
But more than most other games of the last console generation, Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is among the most widely (and extensively) played and admired titles by consumers the world over. And coming close on the heels of the release of associated Bethesda property Fallout 4 late last year, a current-generation remaster of the former title might be on in development by way of an official E3 announcement later this week.
According to Gematsu, two corroborating rumors from industry insider ‘Shinobi602’ and NeoGAF user ‘Enter the Dragon Punch’ have the official reveal of the Skyrim remaster scheduled for an E3 conference taking place this Sunday, June 12 at 7pm PDT/10pm EDT. In reference to the conference in question, Shinobi602 stated publicly that gamers can “expect a remaster of sorts,” which the latter extrapolated upon, stating that the rumors of a Skyrim master were real with all of the accumulated DLC content, mod support, and improved graphics to be included.
The very idea of a Skyrim remaster is certainly means for significant celebration from die-hard fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and should provide for even more hours spent in Bethesda’s magnificently rendered and realized fantasy world. Following the scheduled E3 conference later this weekend, gamers can begin preparing for their return to the blockbuster title on current-generation consoles.
Granted, it would be more exciting to get an official title announcement for Elder Scrolls VI, but a current-generation remaster of the contemporary classic Skyrim will have to do for now for even the most ravenously hungry player of the much beloved fantasy series. Gamers will no doubt be eager to get back into the Bethesda franchise on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One no matter what form that return may take.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is currently available to purchase from all participating retailers for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
