For the Cali institution, it was a no-brainier — with the move to vegan like Chipotle’s vegan sofritas, Whitecastle’s veggie sliders and even fast-food kingpin Burger King’s BK Veggie, customers clamor for options.

Though most foodie’s took to their Twitters to voice their opinions on the matter. “Petitioning In-n-Out for a veggie burger is like petitioning a pizza place for Chinese food,“ reads one of many tweets critical of the call for a meat-free option. “It’s not something they make! Move on!” “This is absolutely the most incredibly stupid thing I have heard in awhile, and there is a LOT of stupid going around,” argues one of the top commentson the petition itself.

“In-N-Out, please do not change anything forthese morons. If you do not want a burger, do not go to a burger stand.Stupid people are stupid.”

And as a 21st century restaurant, you have to compete with the competitors… right? — look at Dairy Queen, 12 years ago they did not have a grill menu. The fast food establishment was just meant for ice cream and dairy treats. Now the frozen fudgesicles are overshadowed by the multiple grilled releases every month. So isn’t it about staying on top of the game?

The petition was launched by The Good Food Institute,a group that works to create and promote plant-based alternatives tothe traditional meat, dairy, and eggs that make up our diets. “If youwant a meat-free meal at In-N-Out, you’re going to be stuck eatingmultiple orders of French fries or a cheese-slathered bun,” reads thepetition.
